Just thinking out loud here for if ever I wanted to replace the anemic 159hp 400ci Small block in the '79 Continental and replace it with something with a little more pizzaz.
Complete drop in crate engines ready to drop in fully assembled.
300hp 351 windsor $4600.00 (the pic shows just the long block but it is for a complete turn key motor)
and if I really wanted to go crazy
525hp 460ci big block 100% complete for $8000.00
the car in question if you haven't been around today.
1979 Lincoln Continental that I'm planing on buying.

You know what's even cheaper? A crashed Mercury Grand Marquis. 4.6L Mod motor, electronic overdrive transmission, fuel injection...

that puppy just needs to breath. I say heads, equal length headers, and a mean ass cam.

That's what I was thinking. Headers, heads a cam plus a new carb will be a hell of a lot cheaper. Spend the extra cash getting a real tune put in at a dyno.

If you put some work into the stock motor, you will get pretty close to 300hp for a lot less money. That said, the 460 would be nice.

Exactly sir. A really good 750cfm 4 barrel and a dyno tune like you said after the heads, cam, and headers. With the right muffler, she can stay classy and powerful. Bigger brakes and tires also suggested of course. All will still be less than a new crate engine

400ci V8 with 159 up. So much lol.
Awesome car though. Get the 460.

So how much are used Coyote's going for?

Total is $1501.50. How many more ponies could one expect from all this?

That CARB regulations from the 70's for you.

yes the 460 would be splendid. I'm just thinking out loud I'm not planning on doing a crate motor swap any time soon I just did not know they were that reasonable. If I get the car I'll trow a few pony parts at it and enjoy it with it's current power plant.

probably around that much ~8-10K I would imagine but getting it to work in the car would probably cost you another 5k on top of that. Hardly seems worth it at that point. The crate motors you could drop in in an afternoon.

not worth the headache of wiring the thing in and making all sorts of mounts. I drop in motor would be much better for a weekend mechanic like myself. I know my limitations of what I can do on my own and a completely different motor swap is not one of those things.

Or you can blow people's minds and drop this in it.

pretty pricy for 252hp. If I was going that route I'd go a 1.0L 3cyl ecoboost. almost the same HP as the stock 400ci. has any one ever done a 30mpg 5500lbs land barge?

Pull a diesel out of a wrecked Super Duty and 30 mpg with 400 hp shouldn't be too far out there...

Slow down Hoss!
You don't want to go spending money you don't have on a car you don't own yet.

oooh! and a t-shirt!

indeed. It's only 9 more than my 305.

I'd say you'd be putting out over 200 horses.

So any variables. Choosing the right performance heads, with proper cam for what you are looking for, equal length headers, something closer to 750 cfm (to just you room for more mods) and of course that proper tune. I see 3 hundo+ HP and a lot more torque being very possible.

good to know. not bad 100% gain in power for $1500-2000 bucks.

Thanks for the link those seem extremely reasonable 375hp 460ci for $3800.00 how can you possibly go wrong.
